Cutebot Introductory Lesson Slides

These PowerPoint slides provide an introductory lesson on programming a ElecFreaks Cutebot using the MakeCode website. The lesson is designed for Years 7–9, but can be adapted for younger or older students depending on prior exposure to computing.

What’s included

  • Slides with speaker notes to guide delivery.
  • Activities introducing movement, simple sensing, and iteration/debugging.
  • Real-world applications of robotics, using examples from our colleagues’ work to connect classroom tasks to authentic contexts.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, learners should be able to:

  • Navigate the MakeCode editor and deploy code to a Cutebot.
  • Use block-based code to move, turn, and stop the robot.
  • Read basic sensor input (e.g. line/obstacle) and implement simple behaviours.
  • Test, debug, and iterate on a program to improve performance.
  • Describe how these ideas relate to real-world robotics.

Important notes for reuse/adaptation

  • Some slides include named colleagues, photos, and case studies. If you adapt or share the deck beyond our department:
    • Review and replace/remove any names, photos, or workplace details unless you have permission from us to use them.
    • Keep or adjust attribution on any third-party images or diagrams.
    • Check and update any links or QR codes.
  • The deck assumes robots are used within enclosed pens and standard classroom safety practices.
